چکیده

JAMESON, DRUMMOND and COWARD [1922] showed that a marine diatom, Nitzschia closterium W, Sm., synthesises vitamin A when grown in Miquel's solution or sterilised sea-water in diffused sunlight. This work was, however, open to the criticism that the culture, one supplied by Dr Allen, Plymouth, was not pure, having been found to contain bacteria. Hence it was decided to repeat the work on a culture of Chlorella (species undetermined) which was known to be free from bacteria. Two experiments were performed. In each the culture medium consisted of:

Gene expression changes of collagen І and ІІІ in human skin fibroblast cells in effect of microalga Chlorella vulgaris extract and compared to vitamin C

Skin aging is a biological process that is due to the reduction of collagen production and increase of multiple enzymes, including matrix metalloproteinase (MMPS), which degrade collagen. Chlorella vulgaris is a marine microalga and its beneficial effects on the skin make it a proper ingredient to be used in anti-aging products. In this study, the effect of C. vulgaris extract comparing to vita...

Dietary Supplementation with Chlorella pyrenoidosa Produces Positive Results in Patients with Cancer or Suffering From Certain Common Chronic Illnesses

Laboratory and clinical studies from Japan have reported that broken cell wall preparations and extracts of Chlorella pyrenoidosa, a unicellular green alga, as well as other Chlorella species when either given orally or injected, promote growth and healing. Furthermore, these preparations stimulate the immune system in such a way that the host is protected from infection and cancer. Chlorella p...

Evaluation of Guanidium Thiocyanate as a Chemical Mutagen on the Expression of Nitrate Reductase Gene (NR) in Chlorella Sp., NTMP04

Nitrate is the predominant form of inorganic nitrogen utilized by higher plants, fungi and algae and its assimilation forms the major pathway for production of biologically useful nitrogen. Chlorella is a unicellular eukaryotic green alga, which offers a potentially useful system for the expression of hetrologous proteins. In the present study the microalgal samples were isolated from stagnant ...

A survey for viruses from fresh water that infect a eucaryotic chlorella-like green alga.

Viruses which formed plaques on lawns of a eucaryotic, chlorella-like green alga were detected in 37% of the 35 freshwater samples surveyed. Virus populations, monitored in seven locations, fluctuated both qualitatively and quantitatively over an 8-month period.

The potential of crude oil pollutant reduction by green alga Chlorella vulgaris and evaluation of the induced physiological responses

In recent years, one of the most major world concerns is environmental pollutants derived from industrial and social performances. Unfortunately, in oil productive countries such as Iran, the substance is one of the most principle environmental pollutants. In this study, the effect of crude oil on some of physiological responses of unicellular alga Chlorella vulgaris such as the rate of photosy...
